The History of the Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc

On February 25, 1990, the Junior Service League of North Houston, established in 1983, became the Junior League of North Harris County, Inc. and the 277th Junior League to join The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI). In 2005, South Montgomery County was added to our name and we became the Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc. There are over 160,000 women in 292 Leagues throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Great Britain.

Sixty-eight women laid the foundation for the future of the Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc. All of these women were members of Junior Leagues throughout the United States and Canada. They resided in the North Houston area and were devoted to addressing social concerns in our community. During this 20th year of service, we continue to salute the foresight, energy and organizational prowess of these women.

Today, Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc. members are still active, influential women in their communities. However, the communities where our membership resides has grown to include The Woodlands, the FM 1960/Spring area, Cypress, Tomball, Willis, Montgomery, Conroe, Kingwood, and Humble. During 2009-2010, all levels of membership in our League contributed over 30,000 hours of volunteer service. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, those volunteer hours have a value to the community of more than $500,000.

As we look to the future we will continue contributing to meeting the needs of our community and our members in ways that are meaningful and enriching. Through the planning process and with the guidance of the Community Advisory Board, we will set our course for the years ahead.
